Choose Your WoW Guild Carefully!?

World of Warcraft guilds, sometimes a lovely source of chat, friendship, and community, can also be an easy way to get a good team together in a few seconds. At other times… well, let us just say that a lot of guilds more closely resemble a pit of constantly emerging demonic brain-eaters than what I described earlier.

Seriously, that is probably why you are reading this article. Your probably looking for some interesting info about guilds or you have decided to form your own guild, demonic brain-eating or not. Here are a few considerations for you, whatever your intentions.

First let us consider it from the point of view of a potential solo player looking for a Warcraft guild. Finding the right WoW guild is often a big decision. Many different factors can affect whether a guild is right for you, and not all of those factors are based around how good the members are, either.

Ignoring whether or not you like the members in a particular guild, does your time zone, or your time schedule, fit in with the general member base? This is a big question; if you are only online when one other strange lurker guy is, do you really want to stay? Even if everyone else is awesome? If they’re all east coast time, and you’re west coast, and you all have jobs, then getting together for more than an hour or two at a time might be tough.

You know the drill. The gnome assigns you a quest to search the vast desert  wastes for some special turtle. Arg. Wouldn’t it be nice to have something like a cheat sheet and save hours of time?

Thotbot to the Rescue

So, you’re looking for World of Warcraft quest guides, eh? Well you’re not alone. Questing can be everything from wonderfully fun to boringly dull to downright frustrating. I expect every avid WoW player at one time or another has been at the point of explosion from some of the more ambiguous quest lines.

Perhaps the information that the one crab you need is *south* isn’t very helpful, especially when the NPC is located at the top of the map. Things like that just make your day that little bit (or a lot) more annoying than it really needs to be.

Wouldn’t you love to know exactly where to go and what to do if you want to find out all the information required to complete practically any quest in the game? Well, never fear, I have also dealt with quest frustration, and I am here to give you the benefit of my experience.

There are three ways to resolve quest difficulties: you can resort to the good ol’ trial and error, search certain web sites, or you can purchase a good guide. On the website side, three extremely informative websites are: Thottbot.com, Allakhazam.com, and GoblinWorkshop.com.

Thottbot runs and gains information from an in-game tool called Cosmos, (one of the many WoW addons you can use to help your game.) What it does, if you install and enable it, is catalog virtually all the data you come across. It then passes that data onto Thotbot, where it’s stored in a massive database.

In this way Thotbot gathers information from numerous fellow gamers about quests that have been fulfilled. In theory then, Thottbot should have almost anything in the game, though, on rare occasions I have found a quest left unfilled or missing entirely. Of course, any new quests won’t be in the ThotBot database until a Cosmos enabled player runs through it.

What Warriors Want What Warriors Want?

Starting a warrior is a commitment to either perpetual mediocrity or constant excellence, this key divide is distributed based upon mainly gear as well as talent build.

Fury is the ultimate key to making your warrior a killing machine, at any given time during leveling a well-geared fury warrior can match, if not surpass, an equally or better geared rogue - that’s quite an accomplishment.

However, not only do you not possess the abilities such as stealth, spellcasting, healing, you also have to make up for it by a simple strategy of kill or be killed. In almost any situation of battle, when the tide turns you either blast a 30 minute cooldown and possibly achieve victory or… well, die.

Plate armor is woefully unhelpful as a survivability tool, for one it only helps when your opponent does straight up physical damage, meaning casters tear into you much like normal. Additionally you’ll only start to really notice the increased mitigation as you stack on the higher quality armor around 50+, prior to that it’s not that far from mail in terms of armor value.

So, with such a lacking arsenal of defensive abilities, what can a warrior do? Hit things, really hard, really fast, and hope he doesn’t pick up anything more than two monsters in a single fight. This is exactly why you will be picking up solely fury talent tree abilities at least up until around level 40, and likely beyond.

Now, before we move on, I’ll let you in on a little secret - ever read about those miraculous arms or protection builds claiming to be efficient at killing? Lies, all of it, unless you happen to be grinding rabbits for a living.

Where and What -World of Warcraft addons can??

World of Warcraft addons can, and most likely will, be one of the most game enhancing tools you will ever find. There are a ton of different possible combinations of WoW mods and WoW addons that can improve your Warcraft gaming experience in an amazing number of ways.

WoW addons include everything from the simplest and easiest modifications to the more complicated changing of the total UI (user interface.)

Given how important addons are to any World of Warcraft player’s experience, we are lucky enough to have an equally great number of websites ready to provide us with the necessary modifications easily and at no cost.

It is nice to know how many mod-makers and editors are out there constantly improving and making it easier to access certain features, or adding in completely new ones. Some of them have a donate button if you feel their efforts are worth a little more than just a “thanks.”

Now, some people prefer to remain somewhat mod free, and even if you are one of them, I still recommend at least getting a few of the better mods or addons. You will never look back once you have experienced how much better your gaming experience can be once you dump the default user interface.

So, let’s start by visiting a few of the better interface/addon/modification websites we can find.

The addon/mod/interface website source that I believe to be the best, is curse-gaming, a huge easily accessible website with practically every single addon you could find on the internet.

Obviously, I’ll leave it up to you to determine what addon or mod suits you best, but first let me suggest some of my favorites. It can’t hurt to pick up the best of the more basic addons first, before finding class and/or zone centered addons.

My number one choice, Titan Panel, is one of the best addons out there. Get this first and enjoy the new bars of information available to you. Titan Panel’s experience and money trackers are quite nice.

My second choice is the Atlas mod. This lovely little addon gives you an in-game tool allowing you to look at a variety of dungeon, city, and zone maps displaying all the routes of travel. It also shows all the bosses within an entire dungeon. It’s quite obvious why I love this one, now isn’t it?

Note: Any new WoW patch, such as 2.4, will disable, and might break, your addons. If they break then you have to wait for the developer of the addon to update the darn thing.

Otherwise, when you log into your character screen click the Addons button in the lower left corner of your screen. Then check the Load out of date AddOns box at the top right of the AddOns screen. Hit “Okay” and then load your character. If they’re not broken by the patch then everything should load and work for you.
